A typical camp weekend
A typical camp weekend starts on Thursday night.....
...On Thursday night all bags should be packed and toiletries ready for Friday in case you are working on Friday. Don't forget your medication!!!
It's best to leave just after lunch (that's about 2pm) on a Friday so that we avoid the office workers frantically escaping their bosses and trying to get home. It also means that we get to choose the best camp site as we arrive before many other campers. A good site is close to ablutions, pool and kiddies playground. A quick stop over will get us ice and wood and any last goodies not remembered. If you can't leave work early, I will go through and set up and you can arrive afterwards.
Now comes the setup. First...we'll get a fire going for coffee and to braai, then pop up the tents and gazebo and setup up the tables and cooking goodies.... about 20 min...all in all....
The trailer on the tent is a breeze...up in 5 seconds whilst the base tent takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Now that we have created a little home away from home for you, complete with carpets....(we campers call it ground cover) and a kitchenette, you can relax and have your Breezers or beer or Cranberry and Vodka....Jamesons for me!
NOW....Grab a chair and your Mills and Boon collection while your kids jump into the hot or cold pools and they forget about cellphones, FB, Whatsapp, BBM and Mixit!!!
Friday evenings is braai evenings due to travelling times....but Saturday evenings we make something special or big....could be a potjie, a special braai with side dishes and salads or even a roast dish.
Saturday and Sunday morning breakfast is cooked on either the scottle and/or the built-in gas stove located in the 4x4 trailer. Lunch and snack meals can be anything from hot dogs or wors rolls to salads and sandwiches and plenty of drinks such as cool drinks, juices and plenty of water for the kids, plenty of tipple for you...Why not?
After washing up the Sunday breakfast dishes, you can chill at the pool with the kids while I pack up the entire camp site and join you at the pool and after a light lunch, then we hit the road back home..... and Monday....bring it on corporate world!!!
